Agios Georgios Beach (Saint George Beach) — Naxos Town, Greece
Agios Georgios Beach
Overview
Agios Georgios Beach — often called Saint George Beach — is the main and most popular beach in Naxos Town (Chora). It’s a long stretch of golden sand with calm, shallow waters making it ideal for families, couples, and anyone who wants a relaxed seaside experience right next to the town.
Why It’s Special
Superbly convenient location — only about 300–400 m from Naxos Town’s main square, that’s roughly a 5–10 minute walk from the center and port.
Safe & shallow waters — the sea is very shallow for a long distance, which is great for children and relaxed swimming.
Beach set within town life — cafés open early, and beachside taverns serve meals and drinks right on the sand. In the evening, the lights and calm sea create a beautiful atmosphere for dinner or a stroll.
Water sports & activities — at the southern end you’ll find facilities for windsurfing, paddleboarding, pedal boats (pedaloes), and more.
Beach Features & Amenities
Sandy beach with umbrellas and sunbeds for rent.
Taverns, bars, cafés — many right on or next to the beach.
Water sports school & rentals near the southern section.
Walkable from most areas in town so most visitors explore on foot.
Tips for Visiting
High season crowds: The beach gets busiest mid-July through August — arriving earlier in the day helps secure a good spot.
Evening mood: After sunbeds are cleared, taverns and lights turn the beach into a pleasant evening destination.
Parking: Close to the beach there is public parking, but it can fill up in summer — walking is usually easier.
In a nutshell: Agios Georgios (Saint George) is the go-to beach if you’re staying in or near Naxos Town — combining convenience, safe swimming, and great food & drink right by the sea.
